here you go miss winehouse...

...your free membership to the 27 club, i hope you will enjoy your stay. oh amy, we all hoped you'd pull through but i guess the iron grip of drink and drugs had you too firmly in it's grasp. i will challenge anybody who says she deserved her fate and the fact that the sad news came on the same day as the tragic attacks in oslo casts no shadow over the impact of a brilliant musician's untimely death. it's a terrible loss to the music industry, the girl knew her shit. rewind 8 years when the nu-indie scene dominated music, amy blew a breath of fresh air through the charts with her first album 'frank'.

the sun, 2011

fast forward a couple and (with the trumpety input of mark ronson) 'back to black' was released which, and i don't say this lightly, in my opinion is one of the best albums of the last ten years. however with this came the beginning of the end. a very new look encompassed a a very new career height. tattoos, a shockingly skinny body and a narcotics addiction just. ruined. everything.

mail online, 2008

anyways, i doubt there's any need for further details. you know what happens at the end of this story. on the 23rd july 2011, aged 27, amy winehouse was found dead in her north london home and joined the notorious "27" club. here's a quick appreciation of the elite membership so far...

in.com, 2011
1943 - 1971 The Doors frontman Jim Morrison. A massive influence on...well...every rock band since the seventies. The three D's, drink, drugs, depression equaled the big O, overdose.

listal.com, 2011
1967 - 1994. this blog is called kurtcouture. if you're reading this i'd expect you to know the story of this guy. nuff said

michaelarnoldart.com, 2011
1943 - 1970. you know you've got it...waaaa aaaah!!!! dead at 27 is what you get from shooting smack. poor janis found out the hard way. absolute fucking waste of a talent.

my sixties love.blogspot.com, 2011
1942 - 1969. "i hope you went out smiling like a child into the cool remnant of a dream" jim morrison's words about the death of rolling stones original brian jones. ironically morrison died two years later on the same date.

rogerogreen.com, 2011
1911 - 1938. musician's who die young are not only linked with rock music. blues great robert johnson also bit the dust at the tender age of 27. details of his death are poorly documented but it's believed he was poisoned.

clashmusic.com, 2010
1942 - 1970. jimi. greatest electric guitar player who ever lived. he became the greatest electric guitar player who ever died aged 27.

so many greats with so many problems in so little time. and with amy winehouse becoming the latest victim we can only speculate as to why 27 has spelt the coincidental end for so much talent. however one thing is obvious, addiction is at the root of the tragedy. a path to self destruction has robbed us of too many special people and in a media obsessed society i suspect this will only worsen. but that's just my opinion...x

and so it all ends...

...harry potter and the deathly hallows part two has arrived on the big screen to end the insanely illustrious harry potter series. subsequently this will end a massive chapter in my own life and finally allow me to "grow up" (shudder). after wednesday (as much as i'm a fan i've obviously waited it out for orange wednesdays, money doesn't grow on whomping willows you know) i'm thinking polo necks, kitten heels and a raging case of camel toe will so begin my path to adulthood. like a real grown up woman yea?

ten years, seven books, eight movies, god knows how many hours, several tears, many a fantasy about being told i'm actually a witch and i don't need to go to normal school/work and being whisked away to some magical adventure land with wands and butterbeer and malfoy, an inappropriately massive crush on ron and an even more inappropriate crush on harry... i. will. be. bawling. it's like saying good bye to the greatest friends i never had. j.k.rowling i commend you. enjoy your billion pound fortune. anybody that can get darth vadar's attention must be on the right track. but that's just my opinion...x

unlikely inspiration...

...came to me at work today. we've been temporarily relocated to portakabins while the showroom is rejazzled. but i'm lucky enough to get my own desk in there, with my computer situated cunningly so i can blog and tweet when i get a minute or two free! might as well take advantage for a few weeks, let's call it compensation for the disruption to my regular working day!

so today i downloaded instagram to my iPhone. i love it! the effects are really nice and it's very simple to use (i'm still getting my head around hipstamatic), and to top it off it was a free app! excited, i wanted to test the thing out! i took a photo of the window i'm sat next to, contemporary blinds with safety features and everything! and with the right effect i think it looked like a proper vintage setup. but that's just my opinion...x

i'm in love with juda-as...

...the new song by crazy lady gaga. well, second to new, but i'm yet to be won over by her latest track 'edge of glory'. i've always kind of liked gaga. not loved, but ya know, liked. i don't think i really knew what to make of her and i'm not so up-to-date with popular music these days (this is a grunge-inspired blog case ya hadn't noticed) but i thought she deserved a mention now that her latest album has come to my attention. i've recently become a subscriber to spotify and decided after hearing 'judas' to give the album 'born this way' a whirl. and ya know what? i liked it. not loved, liked. allow me to ellaborate...

i still stand by the FACT that the first release 'born this way' sounds veeeeeeery much like madonna's classic eighties t00n 'express yourself'. however having listened to the album in its entireity this is definitely not a bad thing. the influence is not meant to be subtle, it's blatantly obvious, making it perfectly acceptable if you ask me! it seems gaga is taking the controversy further (if you GET more controversial than a meat dress) in the manner of madge in her 'like a prayer' wonder days. example? track names such as the aforementioned 'judas', 'bloody mary' and 'electric chapel' have obvious religious references. madonna infamously landed herself in hot water in the eighties for her "blasphemous" burning of the crosses and african-american jesus in the video for 'like a prayer'. however i think the new queen of pop (oooh is it too soon to crown her with that??) will escape judgement this time, it's a whole new era now and despite living in a nanny-state politically correct keraaaaaazy society i think a catchy tune is considered much more important than upsetting Him upstairs. also, and perhaps most crucial, she can dance like a motherfucker. but that's just my opinion...x
