ArtSound Collective Showcase, Stoke

So last Monday was the first of (we hope, many!) Art Sound exhibitions. This was an evening to showcase stokie talent! From ceramics to bumbags to barbie doll fashion it was a night to celebrate local artists and appreciate fresh ideas.

Alice Thatcher (BA HONS Glass and Ceramics) displayed her beautiful bird illustrations and the ceiling hangers are a great interpretation of the ancient Chinese art of origami. You can find more examples of this on the Alice Thatcher Facebook page.

Freelance fashion designer Lou Marshall showcased her collection at the event with a catwalk show (a bit of a giggly and wobbly! Catwalk mind!). Her designs reminded me of French design brand Celine with clean lines, on-safari colours and tapered mac's.

Raver gal Daisy Thomas from Nottingham uni WOWED me with her funky tie dye backpacks and lamee bumbags. Essential raving gear! Visit www.daisythomas.net to stock up now!

Fashion designer (and recent winner of a stall at The Clothes Show 2012!) Jessica Shaw brought a large sample of her grungy Barbie collection to the event. I did some modelling for her earlier this year and the designs are fantastic! Really beautiful sheer fabrics in tie dye and with an influence from barbie meets curtain tie backs! Visit the Jessica Shaw Facebook page for stock.

A massive shout out to Mel Dixon who drove us to this event, without which, this blogpost would not have been possible. ;-D

The event organisers intend to make it bigger and better next time! So any local artists from the Stoke-on-Trent who want to display their work don't hesitate to get in touch with me for details! Absolutely any form of artistic creation is welcome!

post traumatic twilight premiere's

...four premiere's. four countries. five outfits. and five opportunities to make us say "the rupert WHAT scandal?" kristen put the affair whispers at bay last week by stepping out in a variety of stunning (and not so stunning) outfits for the twilight breaking dawn part two premiere's last week.

from julien mcdonald to custom dior the little twi-star put on a brave face and reminded us that the twilight franchise is still a force to be reckoned with, despite the fact she might have put a pretty big dent in it after her affair with snow white and the huntsman director rupert sanders.

fashionmagazine.com

so now for the verdict on her chosen dresses/catsuit from yours truly. to be honest i was just relieved not to see cropped trousers and pointy black stilettos so i'm gonna be - fairly - kind to her.

from left to right:
first up we have a lacy nude zuhair murad gown worn to the los angeles premiere. a real show stopper this one, although in this photo it almost looks like she's got a big hairy beaver

this was the dress that tony hadley had in mind when he wrote gold. elie saab created this number for the berlin premiere. amazing! but the black bootees? leave em at home next time pal.

it's julien mcdonald up next for the madrid premiere. cute shoes and intricate neckline, but not sure about the black and white panel detail. it's a bit old for her i think? super slimming piece though, but not sure this skinnie minnie benefits from it

london. zuhair murad. vile.

and finally this neon raf simons custom dior piece. goes well with the dogtooth shoes. and i love her grecian plait. nice pins. but it's a bit simple compared to the rest...ok so i'm just completely distracted by the snippet of arm candy next to her, all canoodly and forgiving! HMMMPH!

the one thing i'm truly pleased about is kristen's dedication to paleness. i give up on fake tan at this time of year. so nice to see a fellow puritan embracing translucent chic! bye bye orange hands!

must. share. image.

oh god i need a pair. hell i need all of them. black milk clothing will stop me from ever getting on the property ladder i just know it. i'll have to build a house myself made of patterned leggings and ker-razy body suits and just live my life as a 24 hour rave. it'll be mint...

atteeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnn-tion!

i'm back. well, sort of. laptop situation took a turn for the worst recently and i still don't have the funds for a new one so sorry for the gaps! word up to spencer martin and a couple of days off work to give me chance to make a kurtcouture comeback.

it hasn't escaped my attention that grunge fashion is big biz these days. great? well yes and no. everywhere i turn it's like a sea of crucifixes and mcqueen inspired skullduggery. it's like fashion took an overdose of kurtcouture! but at the same time it's great to see the high street celebrate grungey vogue, so let us enjoy the moment of glory.

this week i am mostly inspired by the military. ok, so i can't see many members of our armed forces wearing MAC lipstick or barry m nail paint but the theme is still apparent!

i think the fact that war and military operations are such a daily global headache at the moment, it was inevitable that it would influence the vision of fashion this season. simple, comfy designs convey real military clothing but to make the look more feminine add oversized scarves, lots of jewellery, and ballet flats. this is a really easy look to pull off and you really can make it your own. team with combat boots for a tougher look if you wanna go the whole hog. am i getting through to you private?!!

MAC lipstick in deep berry, £14 maccosmetics.co.uk
Barry M nail paint in black red, £2.99 available at Boots stores

today i am mostly liking...

...bridget fonda. watching england is making me very nervous so a quick post during extra time will hopefully calm me!!

i first noticed fonda in single white female, loved the independent-young-fashion-career-girl look! and the gal sure done hold her own with a screwdriver against a psycho puppy murdering room mate!!

then i saw her in singles and really fell in love. cutest outfits ever and the non existent but so desperately longed for relationship between her and matt dillon makes her even more adorable!

if you haven't seen this already, well, you should watch it. it's grunge, it's love, it's kurtcouture!

oh god italy just scored a disallowed goal! gotta go peeps...

sweetly grunge...

...is today's inspiration. i'm seeing a lot of pink around at the moment, usually a shade which reminds me of paris hilton's chihuahua (NOT a metaphor). but with the right mix of faded glamour and filthy gal the look is perfectly grungified.

jewellery, hair, giant inflatable lips...nothing's safe from a splash of sun-faded pink. ashley olsen has a lot to answer for since she stepped out in 2010 with a straggly pink mop. LOVE!

i haven't the balls for pink hair, but i've recently purchased a pale pink draped blazer which i've worn with everything from a black halter neck maxi dress to skinny black jeans and a fleetwood mac vest. my fave outfit was worn to the airport - a striped blue and white mini dress, nineties wedges, graphite bayswater and pink blazer. comfy but a far cry from trackie b's and a hoody! well, you can't sit and drink champagne in the departures lounge looking you just rolled out of the gym. it's a really versatile li'l number and has become a staple item in my wardrobe (despite the bad weather recently, booo!)

here's a few snaps of the jacket anyway, it's from new look an only cost £24.99 and if I remember rightly is available in black and grey also! and a few pics of some pink-spiration to get you in the mood for a romantic summer! rate up my street.
