unlikely inspiration...

...came to me at work today. we've been temporarily relocated to portakabins while the showroom is rejazzled. but i'm lucky enough to get my own desk in there, with my computer situated cunningly so i can blog and tweet when i get a minute or two free! might as well take advantage for a few weeks, let's call it compensation for the disruption to my regular working day!

so today i downloaded instagram to my iPhone. i love it! the effects are really nice and it's very simple to use (i'm still getting my head around hipstamatic), and to top it off it was a free app! excited, i wanted to test the thing out! i took a photo of the window i'm sat next to, contemporary blinds with safety features and everything! and with the right effect i think it looked like a proper vintage setup. but that's just my opinion...x

i'm in love with juda-as...

...the new song by crazy lady gaga. well, second to new, but i'm yet to be won over by her latest track 'edge of glory'. i've always kind of liked gaga. not loved, but ya know, liked. i don't think i really knew what to make of her and i'm not so up-to-date with popular music these days (this is a grunge-inspired blog case ya hadn't noticed) but i thought she deserved a mention now that her latest album has come to my attention. i've recently become a subscriber to spotify and decided after hearing 'judas' to give the album 'born this way' a whirl. and ya know what? i liked it. not loved, liked. allow me to ellaborate...

i still stand by the FACT that the first release 'born this way' sounds veeeeeeery much like madonna's classic eighties t00n 'express yourself'. however having listened to the album in its entireity this is definitely not a bad thing. the influence is not meant to be subtle, it's blatantly obvious, making it perfectly acceptable if you ask me! it seems gaga is taking the controversy further (if you GET more controversial than a meat dress) in the manner of madge in her 'like a prayer' wonder days. example? track names such as the aforementioned 'judas', 'bloody mary' and 'electric chapel' have obvious religious references. madonna infamously landed herself in hot water in the eighties for her "blasphemous" burning of the crosses and african-american jesus in the video for 'like a prayer'. however i think the new queen of pop (oooh is it too soon to crown her with that??) will escape judgement this time, it's a whole new era now and despite living in a nanny-state politically correct keraaaaaazy society i think a catchy tune is considered much more important than upsetting Him upstairs. also, and perhaps most crucial, she can dance like a motherfucker. but that's just my opinion...x

appearing as if from nowhere...

...is 24 year-old supermodel/actress rosie huntington-whiteley. most famous for modelling victoria's secret and replacing megan fox in the new transformers movie (and let's face it, those are some pretty big boots to be filled) the devon-born....errr...blonde? brunette? blondette is THE NEW FACE of fashion. ever since i first saw her modelling burberry alongside sam riley (actor, you might remember him from such films as 'control' where he played joy division's tragic frontman and not-so-secret hero of mine ian curtis) i knew this girl would be big. and it don't come much bigger than her most recent achievement. and no i'm not referring to her hollywood career. i'm speaking of her reaching the number one spot in FHM's 2011 sexiest women in the world list. as far as having an impact on the public can go, having thousands of men go to the trouble of tearing themselves away from porn/robson green's extreme fishing/more porn long enough to vote you sexiest woman alive is a mammoth achievement. sorry for the casual sexism there boys, we all love robson green's fishing adventures, but in the interests of effect please let this go by-the by.

for those of you sitting and thinking who the pork f**k is rosie blintingly-whittingstall allow me to share with you a few choice images i found when stalking google. enjoy...

need i show more? the thing i really like about her (and subsequently hate) is that apart from her perfect body-shape and beautiful face (grrr) in none-photoshoot shots she actually has a very innocent and child-like look about her. the contrast between the reality of the gal and the ability to "do sexy" when required makes the perfect supermodel. moss did it in the nineties. and i seem to remember she made a lot of money from that? something about being worth millions and having a clothing line in some relatively successful high street store? hmmm i'll look into the facts. i have a good feeling about this one so watch this space. bottom if she's good enough for statham (and the rest of the uk male population) then she's good enough for me. i'm predicting her own lingerie range in the not-so-distant future. cheers victoria's secret but ahhh BYE-BYE! she hella won't be needing them much longer. but that's just my opinion...x

portman we salute you...

fimoria.co.uk 2011
...for your role in the beautifully thrilling psychological drama that is darren aronofsky's 'the black swan', based on the ballet production 'swan lake'. i think every girl can sympathise with the film's main character nina and her battle for self-confidence. teenage years are a time for innocence and rebellion and the film portrays the struggle perfectly. nina is the perfect white swan; sensitive and beautiful but lacking the visceral passion to play the black swan. the film does not under any circumstances skirt around the issues here and there are some very gritty scenes (well, i guess this was to be expected from aronofsky, anybody remember 'requiem for a dream' and the thoroughly disturbing 'ass-to-ass' scene? shudder). from confused sexuality to self-harm this ain't no happy-ending chick flick. watch it. go on. even you boys. you might like it. you might even be scared by it...but that's just my opinion...x
